What is The Great Reshuffle?
‘The Great Reshuffle’ is the trend of millions of people leaving their jobs and seeking out new opportunities. This has been based on LinkedIn data as well as on research conducted with third-party partners.
The marketing industry is one of many that is feeling the impact of The Great Reshuffle. In 2021 alone, there were 618,000 marketing job changes. This figure is 31% higher than in 2020.
The shuffling is not expected to stop there. According to LinkedIn’s 2022 Marketing Jobs Report, 24% of marketers are actively looking for a new job, and 62% are considering changing jobs this year, in the US alone.
The good news is that watching and keeping up to date with trends is nothing unusual for marketing professionals, so they have taken the upper hand and decided to upskill to make themselves more marketable.
Some of the skills they took time to improve on have been social media advertising, content marketing, presentation skills, and problem-solving.
Not only are the employees adapting to the changing times, but the employers are reacting as well, being seen to increase their marketing departments. The past year saw a mind-blowing 374% growth in marketing jobs, with 1.3 million marketing jobs posted to LinkedIn.
Employees are not just adjusting in terms of recruitment but retention as well. There has been a rise in pay and benefits, as well as working flexibility. They are using work-life balance as a focal point.
“Leaders must be focused on cultivating thriving cultures of internal mobility, prioritizing continuous learning, and delivering robust benefits to support their workers,” says Rob Falzon.
But What is The Reason for this Great Reshuffle?
People seem to be leaving their current roles in search of something more fulfilling and better suited to their values and life choices. People are re-evaluating their goals, career paths, and futures and, in turn, finding better opportunities for where they want to end up.
Due to the dreaded C word, we all know about the recent surge of remote working jobs, which provide employees with better-suited jobs and opportunities to meet their needs.
In another report, LinkedIn stated that remote jobs accounted for the majority of applications on LinkedIn for the first time in February. Despite making up less than 20 percent of all paid job listings, applications for remote jobs received more than 50% of all applications.
The term Great Reshuffle captures the sea change that is taking place in every business today. It has caused a massive upheaval in B2B sales as both buyers and sellers are switching jobs at a breakneck pace. There is a surge of opportunities for remote work globally, and the share of jobs offering remote and flexible working is only going to increase.
