Data enrichment and GTM orchestration

Clay Review: Pricing, Pros & Cons, and Alternatives

Reviewed by the Growleady team - we run client campaigns through tools in this category every day. We have no affiliate relationship with Clay; where a partnership exists, we say so in the verdict.

    What Is Clay?

Clay stitches 100+ data providers into waterfall enrichments and AI-per-row actions, then pushes lists into Instantly, Smartlead, HubSpot, or a CRM. It is not a sending platform. In March 2026 Clay replaced Starter/Explorer/Pro with Free, Launch, Growth, and Enterprise, metering Data Credits and Actions. Growleady uses enrichment tools in list-build; Clay is the right review to add because operators keep asking for it and we did not have a page.

    Pros

    • Waterfall across many providers beats a single database for hard-to-find emails
    • Unlimited seats on published tiers - cost scales with credits, not headcount
    • Native hooks into the sequencers agencies already run

    Cons

    • You still pay for Instantly/Smartlead (and often Sales Navigator) on top
    • Credit/Action meters surprise teams that treat it like a flat SaaS
    • CRM sync sits on Growth, not the entry Launch tier

    Clay Pricing

As of August 2026 third-party recaps of Clay’s March 2026 plans: Free (100 Data Credits / 500 Actions), Launch about $185/month ($167 billed annually), Growth about $495/month ($446 annual), Enterprise custom. Confirm on clay.com - credit overages matter more than the sticker.

    Our Verdict

Buy Clay as a data layer. Do not buy it hoping it replaces Instantly. We still verify every list before it hits a campaign, Clay or not.

Best for: GTM engineers and agencies that already have a sending stack and need better enrichment than one database.

    Clay FAQs

Is Clay a cold email tool?

No. It enriches and orchestrates data. Sending still happens in Instantly, Smartlead, or similar.

    How much does Clay cost?

Published 2026 tiers after the March restructure: Launch roughly $167–$185/month and Growth roughly $446–$495/month depending on annual vs monthly. Enterprise is custom. Credits determine the real bill.

    Clay vs Apollo?

Apollo is a per-seat database plus sequencer plus dialer. Clay is a waterfall enrichment workspace with unlimited seats. Small teams often start on Apollo; teams that already send from Instantly add Clay for list quality.
